This drawing shows Hickory, a character from On Wings of Ash and Dust, and an artist, trying to fight his panic and fear of losing his eyesight.
Already blind in one eye, his fear of being completely shut out of the world his soul lives in threatens to drown him.
Hickory has been a favorite of mine since I read the book, and I relate deeply to his fear of losing his connection to the world of visual arts. It’s truly a scary feeling for any artist. ๐ซฃ๐

Faerie Clans CAKE!

For Brittany's Faylan Art Contest, naturally I made a cake. Is anyone surprised? Lol
The flavor is based on the main character's favorite treat: Lilly tarts. Peach cake, a very sweet and tart fruit compote of my own recipe (based on the author's husband's recipe for the Lilly Tarts), and a tart cream cheese frosting. (I think I used a bit too much mango in the compote though, so I'll change that for next time!)
I made the elements on the side and top out of modeling chocolate. They took several tries to cut out (including each feather in the white wing), and I discovered that molding chocolate didn't stick to itself unless melted. I hand-panted it all with edible pens and luster dust.

Alys, one of the main characters from On Wings of Ash and Dust and On Wings of Crowns and Chaos, was such a fun character to draw, and her attitude and personality reminds me so much of my best friend ๐บ And COME ON!! SHE HAS A DRAGON(who is standing behind her protectively)!!! AND I heard she has a love interest in book 2 ๐คญ๐คญ I’m so excited to read that book and meet him.

This is my submission for the fan art contest! (Specifically the crochet dragon) Tomah has been one of my favorite characters from the beginning of book one and after reading book 2, I knew immediately what wanted to crochet Faylan’s favorite Dragon!

I really love how Hickory’s crush on Vale is really expressed through his art which he values so much. & that specifically is the idea behind this drawing.

But also I adore Hickory’s character cause in a way I can relate to him. I used to love drawing so much, if you asked anyone who knew me in school they’d be my witness. But as I’ve aged I have found myself unable to draw as much due to the pain in my hands, my fingers throb so badly lately regardless of what I wish. So I had to change much of my art to photography sets. Which is why the format of my posts are more geared towards that than art. I could have posted the drawing itself but I felt like showing my artwork with my compromise in a way reflects this. I long to be able to draw as much as I used to, but I fear that will likely not be the case again.

This drawing actually has a funny story & that is I didn’t realize the composition required me to do a drawing WITHIN the drawing till I was later into it.๐ Also this drawing has many renders. The chibi’s themselves, them with wings, and without wings, & the painting on Hickory’s canvas of Vale. So it was surprising ambitious of me??

Hickory is a character I can relate to because of our love for art, but for another thing as well… Hickory, an artist, lost eyesight in one eye from an illness, and I, a (once) aspiring filmmaker, lost hearing in one ear from a virus. We both fear the loss of losing the rest of our ability to do what we love, so we hold onto the moments we still have. While I related to him before, this scene was the moment he officially became my favorite character.

This is book two in ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐บ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ณ๐ช๐ข๐ญ๐ด and it was so good! I decided to draw this scene from the book because it was the moment I felt like it really reminded me of the Peter Pan/Tinker Bell stories and this is what came to my mind.

Alys is one of my favorite characters in On Wings of Ash and Dust and On Wings of Crowns and Chaos. She has so much depth as a character with everyone thinking she is one type of personality at the beginning of Book 1, only for the others to realize how wrong they were. I loved how the author highlights being mute and how Alys has to communicate through sign language. While this poem is not a piece of high literature, I felt that it represented Alys. She is such a strong woman and does not let herself be unheard.

I’m a huge YA fan of On Wings of Ash and Dust (I haven’t read book 2 yet) and here’s my fan art drawing! The fairy with the red hair is Vale and she’s by a wanted poster featuring what I imagined was a depiction of Captain Shade. (The book mentions how they thought Quinn was a puck so I thought it’d be fun to show that here.)
Vale’s holding a stack of books because of course she is and although this scene isn’t specifically in the book, I imagined it happening sometime before the Ethodine trials when Quinn hadn’t yet met up with Vale and the others.

I am not necessarily an artist by trade, but I do enjoy drawing and free handing art. So during a moment of creativity, I drew this piece off of a favorite phrase of mine in @authorbrittanywang’s new book, On Wings of Crowns and Chaos (you’ll have to read it to figure out what that phrase is). The hint I will give is that it has to do with the wonderful Tomah the dragon. This book has stayed with me since completing it last week and I cannot recommend it enough.

I am still thinking about these books and their characters. Each character is so unique, but Aeron is one of my favorite male characters. He is so gentle but also protective. You can see the battle between heart and duty in his (Book 2) story arc. I like how some of his battle is waged within himself.
